by Chris EelesIn late September my wife Sue and I travelled to West Timor (via Bali) to attend a Royal wedding on the island of Sumba. It was an amazing experience as Sumba has basically no tourism, very few westerners and a very basic way of life. The wedding experience lasted for nine days. This involved negotiations about ‘bride prices’ (such as how many horses, pigs, cloth and gold she was worth) as well as the cost of the wedding and how it would all take place. We did some snorkelling in between all the wedding stuff and had a great time exploring the island with a group of Aussies and local Sumbanese … mostly by using motorscooters and one of the few cars available. |

Author: Greg Dunn.To rebuild or not to rebuild, that was the question I needed to answer when my 15ft fibre glass cuddy cab developed a soft spot in its rear end. I also had the good fortune of having to replace the outboard motor after it decided enough was enough and gave up the ghost. The thought of giving it up for the tip did cross my mind but the rest of the boat was sound and the trailer is in great condition. So I went and got a quote from a Fibreglass repairer for the job and was quoted $3000 as a starting price. I was then told it could be double that depending on what he found during the repair, like the floor may need to be replaced as well. |

By Kevin BaldacchinoThe last time we took a dive charter out from Portsea was back in February and the weather was terrible, and that was in the middle of our strange summer, but on August the 21st a small group headed down to Portsea again, this time in the middle of winter, and the weather was perfect with the sun beaming, flat seas and people everywhere enjoying the early signs of spring. |
